Take Your Class on a DC Streetcar Ride and Tour the Car Barn Training Center
Learn firsthand how this environmentally friendly, electric fleet of streetcars is maintained, operated, and controlled. Topics covered during the tour include electronics, mechanics, logistics, operations, and current careers available from the talented enthusiastic staff; many who are DCPS alums! Hear stories of the history of DC Streetcar and allow your students the chance to dream of a more transit friendly city of the future.
DATES: Tours are typically held on Tuesdays or Thursdays throughout the months of April – November. Tours on other weekdays may be available upon request.
LOCATION: DC Streetcar Car Barn Training Center 2550 Benning Rd NE, Washington, DC 20002
ACCESSIBLITY: No restrictions; all are welcome! Please do not wear open toed shoes or sandals.
CAPACITY: 25 students per tour
STUDENT TO CHAPERONE RATIO: 10:1 or more for divided group tours, depending on group needs
ARRIVAL TIME: 10:30 am
DEPARTURE TIME: 12:00 noon. Groups may plan to ride DC Streetcar to lunch on the H St./Benning Corridor or Union Station Food Court.
LOGISTICS: Bus drop-off/pick-up to the CBTC or Metro to Union Station and take DC Streetcar to the Benning Rd and Oklahoma Ave. stop. The X2 WMATA bus is also available via the Benning Rd and 26th St. Stop.
***Please note: There is no photography allowed in the control center. Photos are permitted on the streetcar and in select areas of the CBTC.
